2016 Second G20 Sherpa Meeting Opens in Guangzhou

On 7 April 2016, the Second G20 Sherpa Meeting opened in Guangzhou. Delegates, including Sherpas of G20 members, guest countries and international organizations attended the meeting. Chinese G20 Sherpa and Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong chaired the meeting.
In his remarks, Vice Minister Li Baodong welcomed all Sherpas to visit Guangzhou. He said that against the current backdrop of the sluggish world economic recovery, G20 needs to play a leading role to chart the course for global growth and inject new impetus into world economy. While the first Sherpa Meeting agreed on the general direction and priority areas of the preparations for the upcoming G20 Hangzhou Summit, this second meeting will have in-depth discussions on major topics and reach to a broad consensus on the substance of potential deliverables. To this end, G20 members should keep the level of ambition, uphold the spirit of partnership and lay emphasis on substantive contents, to promote jointly the preparation of Hangzhou Summit.
The 11th Summit of G20 will be held on 4-5 September in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. This Sherpa Meeting will engage in discussions on such topics including world economy, innovative growth, trade and investment, Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, energy, anti-corruption, climate change, employment and food security under the theme “Towards an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy”, to expand the common ground and prepare for the Hangzhou Summit.
