Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia
On 16 November 2015 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia in Antalya, Turkey.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Australia are both situated in the Asia-Pacific region and share important common interests and broad space for cooperation. China is willing to deepen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in all areas with Australia on the basis of mutual trust and mutual benefits to promote the healthy and stable development of China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides should enhance high-level exchanges, strengthen communication and facilitate mutual trust. The two countries should make use of complementary advantages, elevate the level of practical cooperation, push the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement to take effect at an early date, and promote the docking of the "Belt and Road" initiative with the "Northern Development" plan of Australia. China encourages its enterprises to participate in the construction of projects including railways, highways and water conservancy facilities in northern Australia, and hopes that Australia will provide Chinese enterprises with a fair investment environment. China and Australia should earnestly implement defense cooperation, jointly combat corruption crime, and enhance cooperation in education, local affairs and tourism. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Australia in multilateral mechanisms such as the UN, the G20 and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
Malcolm Turnbull expressed that at present Australia-China comprehensive strategic partnership enjoys sound development. All political parties in Australia are dedicated to developing strong Australia-China relations. Australia is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and other fields. The Australian Parliament has already approved the Australia-China Free Trade Agreement. It is believed that the agreement will definitely raise the level of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Australia pays attention to China's "13th Five-Year Plan", and expects to bring more opportunities for Australia-China cooperation from innovation-driven development, urbanization and other aspects. Australia will collaborate with China to ensure the success of the G20 Summit next year.
